It is always fun venturing down from the mountains and into the big city to check out a nice restaurant. Salt Lake has a few gems, and I will share my current favorites with you!
For a fun, delicious, and unique dining experience, Table X is my go to recommendation. It is wise to make a reservation, as this is one of the most popular dinner options, and while you're at it, check out the current menu. Table X offers a 5 or 7 course dining option, and the website usually provides the menus so you know what you will be getting. I have always gone for the 7 course option, as it is only $25 more, and the extra courses seem to be well worth it. They also offer both a 5 and 7 course vegetarian option, which is always nice. Each plate is just the right amount, and of course, to start, you are served some of Table X Bread sourdough, which really is the best in town. And not to spoil your experience, but in addition to the two dessert courses, served with your check are two mini warm salted chocolate chip cookies! Definitely a must try when in Salt Lake!
If you are in the mood for sushi, Takashi seems to be the best so far! The restaurant is also a popular spot, and reservations are recommended, although takeout is an option. If you read my Park City post, I raved about Yuki Yama, and I still prefer Yuki Yama to Takashi, but both are excellent sushi spots. My favorite rolls are the Black Magic Woman, featuring sablefish, red pepper, and lemon pesto, and the Easy Rider, with tuna, avocado, mint, and Thai basil.
When you are craving neapolitan style pizza, Pizza Nono in the 9th and 9th neighborhood is the best, with Las Vegas original Settebello in downtown SLC being the second best. Pizza Nono has some fun local flavors added to their pizzas, with the Beehive having pickeled jalapeno and honey. And like all trendy restaurants, they have a nice vegan pizza option. And a SLC pro tip: after eating pizza at Pizza Nono, walk across the street to Dolcetti gelato for dessert!
